Facilitation & Human Capacity Development

Training is our daily business

We’re experts in training, especially competence-based adult education!

With trainings being one of ECO Consult’s core competencies, we are convinced that developing adequate technical and management capacities of target groups, counterparts and colleagues is key for the implementation of sustainable development.

We are a team of dedicated trainers:

  • experienced in cutting-edge didactical formats for adult education – off- and online
  • knowledgeable in a broad range of relevant sectors
  • proficient in English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish, and experienced in trainings with simultaneous translation
  • innovative in combining technical inputs with interactive methods that allow trainees to acquire knowledge, practical skills and a favorable attitude, and
  • able to draw on a broad knowledge base from ECO’s long-term projects worldwide as accomplished project implementers (Link to 5 - Projektdatenbank).

It is our goal to support capacity development – be it on an individual, organizational or network scope – by way of a decidedly strategic and results-oriented approach. Therefore, we offer services before, during and after the training event to ensure that efforts yield the desired results.

We can offer to help you design or adapt appealing trainings for yourself or your target group’s specific needs.

Training portfolio

Our expertise covers a wide range of topics, sectors and regional specifications.

Training Formats

We offer formats as diverse as the contexts in which the capacity development interventions occur. These depend on many aspects (training objective, time span, target group, capacity needs, available resources, etc.) which we carefully analyze in close consultation with the client.

Our strength is to identify the right format in a joint process and tailor it to the individual context. We successfully integrate knowledge transfer, participation and interactivity in face-to-face, digital and blended versions.

Examples of the different formats are:

  • introduction sessions for newcomers in a certain topic
  • sensitization events for decision makers to develop orientation for political decisions
  • basic courses for practitioners who want to build certain competencies
  • training of trainers to support the development of trainer skills
  • multiplier workshops to link technical and organizational change processes
  • training on the job, coaching, mentoring to ensure successful application
  • facilitation of planning and kick-off workshops, project management processes and others
  • moderation of conferences, debates and alike

The ECO training approach

Self-sustaining development depends on the degree to which people and organisations expand their abilities and empower themselves to shape their social, economic and environmental milieu.

In this respect our capacity development support goes beyond isolated training inputs treating capacity building as a comprehensive learning journey from ridge to reef, farm to fork or, generally speaking, assessment to successful sustainable application.

Capacity Needs Assessment

  • Organizing and running a pre-training capacity needs assessment is key to ensure that our courses match the real needs. We continue our participatory approach also during training events and constantly work with pilot groups to further identify and integrate participants needs.

Human Capacity Development Strategy

  • We develop HCD Strategies for projects and programmes to provide guidance for the development process and to define further intervention planning. A HCD strategy forms the work basis for the team and describes all necessary steps to strengthen the knowledge and skills of the target group

Training Concept

  • ECO Consult's training concepts are designed to achieve long-lasting impact. Guided by the question "what is relevant for practitioners?" we translate policies and  technical approaches into tangible and tailor-made learning contents and suitable formats.

Development of Training Material

  • ECO Consult's training material is tailor-made to cater for specific institutional, sectoral or regional/national contexts. We design comprehensive training materials for face-to-face as well as virtual learning material for self-guided learning, to support distance learning as well as to complement face-to-face trainings.

Technical Trainings for Practitioners

  • We conduct participatory, hand-on technical trainings on topics of practical relevance and on professional management skills like project management as well as strategic issues such as change management.

Facilitation of Peer Learning

  • We ensure a successful application of the newly acquired skills e.g. through continuous (remote) coaching or ongoing peer counseling for trainers and capacity building experts by discussing methodological questions and strategic approaches for capacity development processes

Transfer coaching, Training of Trainers

  • We facilitate the development of relevant technical and methodological trainer skills through ToTs to ensure a sufficient number of qualified trainers for future assignments. The ToTs also provide reflective space to exchange and share success factors for effective training events within the trainer pool.

M&E of Training Effectiveness and KM

  • For transforming learning into change, we monitor the necessary institutional uptake. We deliberately offer follow-up services to ensure that the efforts yield the desired results. We support our partners to safeguard the training effectiveness and ensure the achievements of planned impact indicators through post-training evaluations, follow-up and reflection.

We regard training as part of an overall strategic human capacity development process that seeks to initiate change processes through individual inspiration whether it be in face-to-face, digital and/or blended learning formats.
