ProSOL Madagascar: Energizing video says farewell

Passionate about the farmer-to-farmer extension approach that ECO Consult has introduced and practised with great success in the Republic of Madagascar, ECO Consult's former international team leader Fabrice Lheriteau has now cast the project's experience into a video that is both emotionally and physically moving. The 3:15-min.-format features participating farmers of the "Paysans relais" methodology, commemorates the interventions' aims and achievements in a song, and animates the GIZ ProSOL programme's mascot as a messenger of the approach. Well beyond a personal tribute to the spirit of comradeship, the video makes a worthy instrument for extending KAP (knowledge - attitudes - practise). The approach of "Paysans relais" (relay farmers) was innovative in the region. Its results proved that farmers are likely to adopt new practices when they see them working in a neighbour's field and receive advice from someone who speaks their language and is subject to the same local conditions. ECO Consult had started the initiative in 2024, in order to scale out its remarkable success in winning trust for an adoption of agro-ecological management techniques in the region of Boeny. In the 15 target communities the project team had surpassed the indicator of 15 000 ha of land to be immersed into the innovative agricultural practises scheme by 38%, in only seven years. 

ECO Consult has implemented the BMZ/GIZ programme's area of action 1 until 2025, together with GOPA Consultants. The technical and administrative dispositions that the project has helped establish will have a lasting impact on land management, in the Republic's context of severe soil erosion and degradation.
