In every one of our projects ECO's rationale is to look out for economically viable solutions while protecting the natural environment. We enhance local opportunities and thereby work towards a contribution to such global challenges as poverty and climate change. ECO's work is process-oriented and based on partnership, participation, institutional pluralism and subsidiarity. This is reflected in the following ethical standards:

  • Development cooperation means intervening in ongoing processes and consciously steering them. Planning must be based on an in-depth knowledge of the ecological, economic, social and institutional processes and systems and the interplay between them, and the synergies which arise. In each individual instance the prevailing circumstances are taken as the starting point.
  • Planning for the future means making every effort to take into account both the ecological and the economic interests of the present and future generations. Activities are moulded by the need to achieve sustainability.
  • Sustainable management of natural resources is only possible if a consensus can be reached among local people. The major stakeholders must participate actively in planning, implementing and monitoring the project.
  • The vertical integration and networking of everybody involved, from national decision-makers to the local population, is crucial for successful programme consultancy.
  • The alarming acceleration in ecosystems deterioration and the concomittant problems cannot be solved by isolated sectoral activities. They demand interdisciplinary, supersectoral approaches. The same holds true for challenges that pertain to improving governance and inducing social change.
  • Planning in a system which is as complex and dynamic as the natural environment must be flexible and must promote diversity and development options in the ecological and social domains.

ECO Consult is proverbial in its working attitude of building trust among team members and implementing partners. It is the necessary starting point for consensus and momentum of change.
