Biodiversity Conservation through integration of ecosystem services in public politics and private sector engagement – TEEB

From November 2017 to January 2019, ECO assisted high-level Brazilian governance bodies in their effort to take stock of Brazil’s natural assets in a more systematic and accurate fashion. Jointly with GITEC Consultants and the University of Vienna, Austria, the Brazilian Ministry of Environment, Brazilian Forest Service, National Water Agency and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics were supported.

Commissioned by GIZ, the GITEC-led consortium implemented the service package "Consultancy to Elaborate the Water and Forest Environmental-Economic Accounting" with a focus on strengthening institutional capacities for the quantitative assessment of ecosystem services and bio-resources (with a specific focus on water and forests). Through a strategic combination of capacity development, pilot measures, information exchange and stakeholder dialogue, relevant experience and evidence was generated and dispersed to regional and global participants of the TEEB process.
