The project supports
the National Institute of Education and the Ministry of Education
in order to foster disaster preparedness, prevention and mitigation
among school children and youths through disaster safety education
and practice. Topics related to Disaster Safety such as natural
hazards and climate change are being introduced to school education.
On the one hand, pre- and in-service teacher training is being
enhanced through curriculum development as well as training
of teacher trainers and lecturers. On the other hand, the introduction
of modules for school projects and related learning and teaching
materials directly supports the ongoing teaching work at secondary
school level.
The project works with 200 pilot schools throughout the country.
In the first phase, the project has already produced and provided
a vast array of print materials. Currently, a DVD on Disaster
Safety, including teaching material as well as a self-learn
student’s section is being produced.
