In the framework of
a forest and climate change TC and FC cooperation the program
(FORCLIME) aims to implement an improved institutional and regulatory
framework for sustainable forest management, nature conservation
and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation
and forest degradation (REDD). It further supports relevant
public and private actors at regional, national and local level
to implement according methods and services.
On behalf of GIZ, ECO is implementing Component 3 of the TC
program called “Nature conservation and sustainable development
in Biodiverse Areas in the Heart of Borneo (HoB Initiative)”.
The component aims to build effective schemes to improve the
living conditions of forest dependent communities while ensuring
effective nature conservation and natural resource management.
It supports collaborative management of national parks and their
bufferzones and facilitates negotiation of land use and development
plans among major stakeholders in selected HoB districts. Livelihood
development measures, including agreements on payments for environmental
services, will empower communities living within or adjacent
to conservation areas and decrease poverty and vulnerability
to climate change impacts. |
