Contributions to Guilin conference

2013-11/ ECO expertise was called to contribute to the international conference „Strength in numbers“ in Guilin, P.R. China, in November 2013. The conference was the first in kind to assess the importance of forest associations for forest sector development worldwide. Representatives of forest cooperatives and other types of forest management associations, service providers and government officials from all continents attended the presentations and discussions. ECO Consult presented findings on the interfaces of the national tenure reform in China and the promotion of sustainable forest management, on behalf of the Sino-German bilateral project "Low carbon land use" (IKI/GIZ).

ECO Consult among top 10 GIZ contractors

2013-10/ ECO Consult has sustained its excellent market position in the consultancy branch. This is testified by the 2012 procurement report of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Germany's major ODI implementer. Out of 100 international consultancies listed across all fields of expertise ECO is among the top ten in terms of both financial volume and number of GIZ contracts it received in 2012. Individual land titles help combat land degradation

2013-09/ As part of its business activities ECO Consult has assisted the transfer of use rights on several hundred thousands of hectares of previously state owned forests to private user groups. Out of the schemes – of diverse sociocultural and legal kinds – applicable in such transfers RVI (individual community-based afforestation) has proven a particularly interesting model, in an African context. CLI: Forests for a green economy

Preparing UN's Rio+20  

2011-10/ The conference was a country-led initiative (CLI) in support of the work of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF). It was one of Germany’s activities to celebrate the “International Year of Forests”. The conference was organized in close collaboration with the UNFF Secretariat and FAO. The results of the conference will be fed into the preparatory process of the upcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20).

Understanding the roles that forests can play in building a Green Economy is central to the themes of both Rio+20 and UNFF-10 (2013): Rio+20 will focus on the themes of “Green Economy in the Context of Sustainable Development and Poverty Eradication” and ”Institutional Framework for Sustainable Development”, while the central theme of UNFF-10 is ”Forests and Economic Development”.
